Investment Simulator Developer
Doe

Software development
Doe is on a mission to help Gen Z women master the language of money in a fun and impactful way.
We’re looking for a student developer to build a simple, embedded investing simulator that livesinsideour existing web platform. You’d work under and with our current lead student developer, who owns the main codebase and architecture. This is not a real-money trading platform. It’s a practice playground where users can:
Get a fake starting balance
“Buy” and “sell” real companies they recognize
See how their pretend portfolio performs over time
Scope of the project (MVP):A small stock universe w/ a curated list of ~50-200 recognizable U.S. companies + a few ETFs. Prices can be end-of-day or simplified, not live trading data.
Trade ticket:Pick a ticker from the list; Select Buy or Sell; Choose amount (either $ amount or # shares); Market orders must-have, limit orders nice-to-have
Portfolio view:Show current holdings (ticker, shares, cost basis); Show cash balance; Show total gain/loss in $ and %. Show basic history / transaction log (“Bought 2 shares of AAPL at $X on [date]”)
Integration w/ Doe:The simulator should plug into our existing platform and respect our authentication
Expected Outputs
1) Investment simulator (MVP version) integrated into our existing platform.
2) Weekly or bi-weekly check-ins; Code reviews from the lead dev; A clear MVP milestone (e.g., working prototype in 6-8 weeks part-time)
3) This is ideal for: A student who likes fintech, education, or building tools that actually get used, not just assignments (and can work under lead dev's instruction)
